The first edition of this print was to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of Old Try. We decided to reprint it because whether it's the classroom, the locker room, the board room, or whatever room in which you find yourself in need of a bit of courage, this is a good reminder.

From our founder, Micah, on the print design:

Ten years ago, I had an idea. To start a design company. On a bus. Well, not the company on a bus, but the idea. You get the idea.

I got off the bus and talked with my wife about it. Her response “Well, let‘s give it a try and see how it goes.” A decade of Old Try later, it is still going.

I made this to encourage others. To take a shot and see where it takes you. You just might continue to surprise yourself.

What goes into an Old Try letterpress print?

Love. History. Cut hands. And a little bit of cussing.

DISPLAY TYPE

Wooden & Worn

We have drawers of 100+ year old wooden (and lead) display type. It has been used to print rodeo posters and labor union broadsides and newspapers. It has aged like a champ - picking up dents and dings that give the characters character.

HAND-CARVED GRAPHICS

Linoleum & Magnesium

Each color gets a plate. And 95% of those plates are carved by hand. Some have fine line work (or just obnoxious repeating elements the designer insists on) and those get machined. It isn’t quick or cheap or easy, and that’s just how we like it.
