Old Kentucky Home
There aren't many songs in sports that give me chills.
The Star-Spangled Banner at the Olympics. When the Ole Miss Band used to play From Dixie With Love. And when the ladies in their hats and the men with cigars all sing at the Derby post parade. (I kid you not, I'm getting chills just typing about it.)
It's bigger than a song: it's something grandkids share with their grandaddies, who shared the same with their grandaddies, on and on back to the 20s. While America is gearing up for the fastest two minutes in sports, it's those Kentuckians who are rubbing away tears as memories of home come floating back on May breezes.
